Meizhou City locates in the northeast
of Guangdong Province, with Fujian
Province in the northeast and Jiangxi
Province in the northwest. Meizhou
has an area of 15,800 square kilometers
and a population of 4.85 million.

General Survey of Economic Development
After the open and reform policy been
implemented, Meizhou has made great
development in export orientation
economy. In 2003, the total export
and import achieved $300 million,
among which the export was $210 million,
with an increase of 30.7%. The contractual
foreign investment was $168 million,
with an increase of 51.6%, the actual
utilized foreign investment was $140
million, with an increase of 28.6%.

(1)The investment environment is continuing
to be perfected. Meizhou is the core
of Guangdong , Fujian and Jiangxi
province, connecting the inland and
seashore areas. Meizhou is the joint
of National Highway No. 205 and 206,
Guangzhou-Meizhou-Shantou Railway
and Meizhou-Kanshi Railway. The density
of road in Meizhou ranks the first
among the mountainous cities of Guangdong
Province. The Mei County Airport has
opened two airlines to Guangzhou and
Hong Kong, the water transportation
leads to Chaozhou and Shantou. The
telecommunication is developing very
fast, The construction of digital
networks and broad band networks is
taking the lead among the mountainous
cities of Guangdong Province
(2)The industry structure is modifying,
there are more business opportunities
for investment. Meizhou City has 8
pillar industries, namely textiles,
machinery, electronics, building materials,
tobacco, etc. Meizhou will make every
effort to adjust its industrial structure

mineral and tourism. Meizhou has 48
kinds of rich minerals such as coal,
iron mine, limestone, rare clay and
porcelain clay etc, among which the
reserve of manganese is ranked first
in Guangdong province. Meizhou has
plenty water resources, the reserves
of hot spring and qualified mineral
water is tremendous. There are tourism
resources such as cultural historic
site constructed from Tang Dynasty,
former residence of celebrity, natural
spectacles of all kinds, and unique
Hakkas culture sights in Meizhou.
