Being located in South East Guangdong, Shanwei borders the South China Sea on the south and is adjacent to HongKong on the west. Connecting the Pearl River Delta Area and the East Guangdong, it covers an area of 5,271 square kilometers and owns the populatio3 million. Surrounded by mountains and sea, Shanwei City is praised as "Golden Coast for Tourism of East Guangdong".

1. General Survey of Economic Development
Since the implementation of the reform and opening policy, Shanwei has enjoyed a fast development on its export-oriented economy. In 2003, its import and export value is USD 540 million, with an increase of 18.5% over the same period of 2002; among which, the export value is USD 270 million, with an increase of 10.4%. The contractual utilization of foreign capital and actual utilization of foreign capital in 2003 reach USD 137 million and USD 127 million respectively, increasing by 9.1% and 40% respectively.

2. Unique Advantages and Development Characteristics
(1)Trying the best to improve the investment environment. The Shenzhen-Shantou Highway and Gunagzhou-Shantou Highway run through the city. There are three opening ports in Shanwei, with an annual handling capacity of about 1 million tons. The passenger and cargo transportation between Shantou and HongKong are convenient.

(2)Being rich in tourism resources. Being praised as "Golden Coast for Tourism of East Guangdong", Shanwei has lots of scenic spots and historical sites, many of which are belonging to national key protecting historical and cultural relics.

(3)The three bases breed business opportunities. Introducing foreign capital and utilizing private capital, Shanwei is creating three bases, namely the biggest processing industries base in East Guangdong, supplying base of agricultural and by-products in Great Pearl River Delta Area, and the tourism and sightseeing base.
